Manchester United have approached Didier Deschamps about taking the manager's job, according to Foot Mercato. The French outlet said the contact was made in recent days, with the aim of appointing him on a permanent basis.

Deschamps has been out of work since the end of the 2026 World Cup. He is said to have shown little interest in the idea, with the club caught in a cycle of problems involving friction between the board and supporters and poor work in the transfer market.

Michael Carrick's side have gone nine matches without a win in all competitions and sit 17th in the Premier League table. That run ended with a first victory in 10 matches, a 3-2 win over Roma on 3 November.

Carrick's position as head coach is described as full of uncertainty, although the board have continued to give him the chance to turn the team's form around.
