Harry Kane has become the first player from his country to win football's top individual prize since Michael Owen in 2001, claiming the award on Monday night in London.

The Bayern Munich striker beat the two favourites, Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid and Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, according to sanook.com. Kane said he was almost speechless, adding that receiving the award in London made the night even more special.

His case rested on a remarkable scoring year, in which he netted 73 goals in 65 appearances across all competitions for club and country. He also won the domestic league and cup with Bayern Munich, while his national team finished third at the 2026 global finals.

Kane joins a short list of winners from his country that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Owen. He thanked everyone who voted for him and acknowledged that this year's decision must have been a difficult one.
