Reports suggest a Manchester United forward could be out until January next year at the earliest because of a shin injury.

The forward has not played for the club since he was substituted in the second half of a cup defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion in September. The 23-year-old has since undergone several detailed examinations as the medical staff try to pin down the source of the problem.

Head coach Michael Carrick has been pressing the club's doctors for an answer on when the player might be able to return.

Since arriving at Old Trafford from RB Leipzig, the striker has scored 14 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions, adding a single assist. He had found the net twice this season before the injury.

A lay-off of that length would rule him out of the fierce rivalry fixture against Liverpool and the meeting with defending champions Arsenal, as well as at least three matches in the continent's premier club competition.
