Bruno Fernandes denies rift with Michael Carrick at Manchester United
The Manchester United captain says talk of a falling-out with his head coach is untrue and that his belief in the manager is unchanged.
Bruno Fernandes has said that reports of a rift with Michael Carrick are untrue, describing the talk around his relationship with the Manchester United head coach as lies. The captain said there had been plenty of speculation and a lot of false information about what happened between the two of them.
Fernandes said the pair had spoken and cleared the air, after which Carrick chose to leave him out because his form was poor, which he called fair. He added that the manager holds the authority to make that call and that it has not changed his belief in Carrick, the coaching staff or the rest of the squad.
The questions followed a run in which Fernandes criticised Carrick's approach after a 1-4 defeat to Como, then was dropped to the bench for a 0-3 home loss to Bournemouth. He returned to the starting line-up but United still lost 0-2 to Chelsea at the weekend.
United's 3-2 win over Roma ended a run of nine matches without a victory. Fernandes said nobody at the club is protecting anyone's position, adding that the club and the players wanted that win and had worked hard to come through the spell together.
He also said the episode has not affected his belief in Carrick, the staff and his team-mates, nor the aim of winning every remaining game.
