Yamal passes Mbappé as the Champions League's top teenage scorer
The Barcelona forward's opener against Aston Villa took him to 14 goals in the competition, one more than Mbappé managed as a teenager.
Lamine Yamal has overtaken Kylian Mbappé as the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history, ESPN reported, after his strike in Barcelona's 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday. The Barcelona forward, 19, opened the scoring in the seventh minute at Spotify Camp Nou, taking a Villa mistake and bending the ball past Zion Suzuki.
That goal was his 14th in the competition, a tally reached in only 37 appearances. Mbappé, now a Real Madrid forward with 72 Champions League goals, had held the teenage mark with 13.
Yamal's record is one of several he holds in the competition, among them the youngest player to start a game in the Champions League proper, at 16 years and 83 days against Porto. He is also the youngest to score and assist in a game and the youngest to score in a semifinal, and he has the most goals of any player before his 18th and 19th birthdays.
One landmark has slipped, however: Max Dowman overtook him earlier this year as the youngest player to appear in the knockout stages. Yamal finished third in the Ballon d'Or last week behind Harry Kane and Mbappé, and has begun the new campaign in strong form.
In 15 appearances in all competitions this season he has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists. Raphinha added two more goals as the LaLiga champions handed Villa their first defeat of the League Phase and provisionally climbed to second in the table.
